Braves Win Tournament
December 30, 2008: The
Heard County High School boys’ basketball team continued
their remarkable season Tuesday night with a 69-57 victory over
host Haralson County in the final of the Haralson County Invitational.
The win capped off an impressive three victories in four days by
the Braves (9-0), who won the annual tournament for the first time
since 2001. The Braves took a big lead early against the Rebels
(5-9), ending the first quarter with an 18-9 lead. However, the
Rebels fought back and trailed by only two heading into the fourth
quarter. The Braves pulled away in the end, outscoring the Rebels
24-14 in the final period. The Braves were led by tournament MVP
Santez Emory, who finished with a game high 18 points in the game.
Sophomore Martez Winston was named to the All-Tournament Team after
contributing 11 points and several key assists.
During the tournament, the Braves were forced to play a tough AAAA
Villa Rica team and an unknown out-of-state opponent in Heflin
High School (Alabama). The Braves defeated Villa Rica in the opening
game of the tournament by a score of 59-47. The Braves then returned
Monday evening and defeated Heflin by a score of 82-71. Head coach
Paul Brewer sees the tournament victory as a part of the big picture. “For
us and our youth to have won seven road games already is a big
deal,” claimed Brewer. “We need to really get back
to practice and get ready for the grind now.”

"
Brick for Life" Fundraiser Has Begun
Show
your support for HCHS! The pavers are $30.00 with two lines of
characters and 18 letters per line. They can be in honor of,
in memory of, class of, or any other statement of recognition.
The purpose of the brick sale is to raise funds for a new fence
and ticket booth at the football field. Plans include a paver
walk to the gate area and replace the present fence with black
iron fence panels and brick columns. A central archway with two
ticket booths will highlight the improvements. Forms may be picked-up
at the school office or call 706-675-3656.
